India Bolsters Maritime Defense with the Commissioning of INS Arighat, Its Second Nuclear-Powered Ballistic Missile Submarine
India’s strategic strength has been further bolstered today as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has commissioned INS Arighat, the second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine. This important occasion witnessed the presence of the important officials such as Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh Tripathi and Vice Admiral Suraj Berry which is a significant step towards bolstering India’s naval power.

Current events show that INS Arighat, a 6,000-tonne submarine which will be on a long range patrol in the Indo Pacific is fitted with K 15 nuclear ballistic missiles with a range of about 750 km. The upgradation of Indian Navy with this submarine has also boosted the second strike credibility of a NFU nuclear posture of the country. Now, India has INS Arihant along with two submarines patrolling in the sea to pose a strong threat against possible threat in the region.

This commissioning is a significant aspect of India’s strategic front in defense, and the INS Arighat will add in bridging some of the technological loopholes that the INS Arihant has. India is set to operationalise its third SSBN, the INS Aridaman and a fourth boat S-4*, and the country is all set to bolster its underwater nuclear deterrence.
Besides the SSBN s, there are plans in pipe line to further expand the strength of Indian navy by commissioning the guided missile destroyer INS Surat, the stealth frigate INS Taraagiri and the Kalveri class submarine INS Vagsheer. These advances reflect India’s determination to protect its strategic interests in the Indian Ocean Region.
