Imran Khan: ‘Assassination Attempt’, Banned from media, evades arrest, what’s more?

Imran Khan banned; accuses Pak’s PM Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah for another assassination attempt

Amid the ongoing political and economic crisis, Pakistan is witnessing mayhem after Rana Sanaullah, who is the Pakistan Interior Minister has claimed that former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan escaped to his neighbour’s house to avoid arrest by jumping his residence’s wall, according to the latest reports from The News International.

Sanaullah’s statement comes a day after Islamabad Police arrived in Lahore to arrest Imran Khan on Sunday. However, the officers from law enforcement returned without an arrest as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf told them that he (Imran Khan) “wasn’t home,” as per the news report.

In a press conference, Rana Sanaullah said, “The police team that went to arrest Imran Khan faced a lot of drama yesterday. Rumours are that he (Imran Khan) jumped into his neighbours’ house (to escape). He (Imran Khan), after a while, surfaced from somewhere and delivered a huge speech,” according to The News International.

Sanaullah also stressed that this was not an appropriate strategy if the police wanted to arrest Imran Khan adding that, “The police went there to inform him about the court’s orders. But he (Imran Khan) is a shameless person.”

He said that when the authorities want to arrest and present him (Imran Khan) before the court, they will do it without any hesitation. The Pakistan Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah accused Imran Khan of misusing authority about Toshakhana gifts.

Sanaullah said, “If the court acquits Imran Khan, we will accept it,” and added that, “the government has no desire in arresting him (Imran Khan), but he should ensure his appearance before the courts, according to multiple news reports.

Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan is accused of buying gifts he had received as PM at a discounted price from Toshakhana, and selling them for profit.

LEGAL EVENTS SET IN MOTION

Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal on February 28 issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Imran Khan for continuously failing to appear before the court in the Toshakhana case.

Meanwhile, a local court rejected Imran Khan’s plea in Islamabad seeking suspension of his arrest warrant in the Toshakhana case.

Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal after hearing the arguments announced the verdict reserved on an application filed by the PTI chief seeking the cancellation of his warrants, according to Dawn reports.

“A warrant shall remain enforced until it is cancelled by the court which issued it or until it is executed as per Section 75(2) Cr.P.C,” the court order stated as per multiple news reports.

It said that the warrant had been issued for Imran’s appearance in the trial court. However, he did not appear in court even today (Monday).

The court order further said that since the accused had not come to the court, to ensure his appearance in the trial in the future “the application is rejected”, according to the Dawn report.

‘ANOTHER ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT’: IMRAN KHAN TO PAKISTAN CHIEF JUSTICE

Imran Khan wrote a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial requesting an adequate security arrangement for his court appearances after dodging arrest in the Toshakhana case.

Imran Khan, who is also the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, claimed that another assassination attempt is being plotted on his life and alleged that he has not been provided with adequate security despite being the country’s former Prime Minister.

“I have been confronted with questionable threats, FIRs, and finally an assassination attempt ever since the removal of my government,” the former Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan stated in the letter, according to The Express Tribune report.

Not only this, but the former Pak PM also once again alleged that the current Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif along with the Interior Minister were involved in the failed assassination attempt against him and said that there are clear signs of another assassination attempt being plotted against him.

Imran Khan had in November last year survived an assassination attempt when shots were fired by a gunman at Khan’s container-mounted-truck.

PAKISTAN MEDIA BANS IMRAN KHAN FOR SPREADING HATRED

After Imran Khan did not show up to the court hearing, Pakistan authorities banned him from television for raising political tensions as the country struggles to shore up its finances and avoid default.

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority ordered television channels to ban Imran Khan. They have to abstain from airing the former cricket star’s speeches, saying that his comments are “prejudicial to the maintenance of law and order” and “likely to disturb public peace and tranquility.” It also stated and directed satellite channels not to broadcast any live news, recorded, conferences, or speeches, or else licenses will be suspended for non-compliance.
