A heart-wrenching tragedy has struck with five lives lost in a major road accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway early Wednesday morning. Four doctors and a laboratory technician from Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences, Saifai, have been identified among the dead. According to police reports, the accident took place at around 3 am when a speeding SUV lost control and crashed head-on into an oncoming truck after crossing the median divider.

Timeline of Events
The accident occurred when the SUV going towards Saifai skidded off its path and hit the divider. Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Anand said that in the impact, the vehicle shifted to the opposite lane and collided head on with the truck, killing the four doctors and the laboratory technician dead on the spot, with another passenger seriously injured. The sole survivor is identified to be a postgraduate student Jaiveer Singh. He has been immediately shifted to the local hospital Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Medical College at Tirwa.

The Identities of Victims
The tragic incident has lost five lives, including those of Dr. Anirudh Verma, 29, from Agra, Dr. Santosh Kumar Maurya, 46, from Bhadohi, Dr. Arun Kumar, 34, from Kannauj, Dr. Nardev, 35, from Bareilly, and laboratory technician Rakesh Kumar, 38. All of them were respected professionals at the Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences and were returning to Saifai after attending a wedding in Lucknow.

A Journey That Turned Fatal
The ill-fated group was just returning from a momentous occasion, but unimaginable tragedy struck them while they were on their journey back. According to Circle Officer Dr. Priyanka Bajpai, the crash not only deprived the medical community of gifted individuals but also left their families and colleagues in deep sorrow. The police have sent the bodies for postmortem while efforts are underway to extend all necessary support to the injured survivor.

Recurring Accidents on Expressways
This accident is a recent example of the hazard caused by high-speed drives on expressways. Lucknow-Agra Expressway is one of the key highways connecting major cities of Uttar Pradesh. Many accidents have occurred in these roads in the last few years. Most of them are on account of over-speeding and loss of control. Even if expressways are designed to reduce travel time, cases like this call for harsh enforcement of speed limits along with other road safety measures.
