Himachal Pradesh Gears Up for Centuries-Old Kullu Dussehra 2023

Himachal Pradesh prepares for the International Kullu Dussehra 2023, a centuries-old event running from Oct 24 to 30. The festival features cultural diversity and emphasizes regional recovery and global promotion.

Centuries-old Kullu Dussehra 2023: Himachal’s Cultural Extravaganza & Global Resurgence

 

The centuries-old International Kullu Dussehra 2023 is set to take place from October 24 to October 30, in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. A prelude event for the 9th edition of the ‘India International Dance and Music Festival’ and the International Kullu Dussehra 2023 was jointly organized by the Himachal Pradesh government and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in New Delhi.

Sunder Singh Thakur, Chief Parliamentary Secretary of Tourism and Chairman of the International Kullu Dussehra 2023 Organizing Committee unveiled a teaser and released a booklet providing a glimpse into the festival’s grand celebrations.

Centuries-Old Kullu Dussehra 2023

Thakur shared that the International Kullu Dussehra 2023, with roots tracing back to the 17th century, will be held in Kullu from October 24 to October 30 this year. The festivities will kick off with Lord Raghunath ji’s Rath Yatra, featuring the participation of more than 300 local deities. Notable highlights include the International Carnival on October 25 and the Kullu Carnival Fest on October 30.

One of the festival’s major attractions is the International Cultural Festival, which will host cultural troupes from over 20 countries, including Russia, Israel, Romania, Kazakhstan, Croatia, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Panama, Iran, the Maldives, Malaysia, Kenya, South Sudan, Zambia, Ghana, and Ethiopia.

State’s Global Festival Push and Recovery

Thakur emphasized the state government’s efforts to elevate the festival’s global status and highlighted the region’s recovery from recent disasters, making it ready to welcome tourists to Kullu and Manali. He credited Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for expediting restoration and rehabilitation efforts, reducing travel time from Chandigarh to Kullu from six hours to four hours, and ensuring that 13 out of fifteen tunnels were open for commuters. Flights from Amritsar, Chandigarh, and Delhi to Kullu are operational to facilitate tourist arrivals.

Anu Ranjan Dy. The Director General of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations provided insights into the support provided by the ICCR and the participation of cultural troupes in the festival. Shashi Pal Negi, Assistant Commissioner to Deputy Commissioner Kullu, welcomed the guests and briefed them on the event’s background.

Special guests from various embassies, including Nandita Gupta, Advisor, Government of Himachal Pradesh, and Sh Sushil Kumar Singla, Principal Resident Commissioner, graced the occasion with their presence.
