A 126 km Haryana Orbital Rail corridor to boost Manesar industry and decongest Gurugram traffic.
GURGAON: The first phase of the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC) project is about to kick off, and preparations for the ground-breaking ceremony on November 3 near Dhulawat are in full swing. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will mark the occasion.
This 126 km corridor will connect Palwal with Sonipat through Sohna, Manesar, and Kharkhoda, serving both passengers and freight transportation. It’s even equipped to handle double-stack containers.
To manage this extensive project, the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC) has split the 126 km route into two phases. The first phase (part A) will cover a 30 km stretch from Dulawat in Palwal to Patli in Gurgaon, while the second phase (part B) will encompass the 96km corridor between Patli and Palwal.

Progress on the HORC Project
Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav confirmed that the ground-breaking ceremony will take place on November 3, with all preparations in order. Land acquisition has been completed, and farmers have received their compensation. The work order for the first phase is already issued, and it’s expected to be ready by May 2024. A 10km section of the initial 30km route, from Manesar to Patli, should be operational by March next year. This corridor will also improve connectivity to the Maruti plant in Manesar and All Cargo in Farrukhnagar.
The HORC project is set to bring several benefits, including easing congestion in the NCR by diverting railway traffic away from Delhi. It will make commutes and long-distance travel more affordable and faster, serving various directions from the city and industrial regions like Sohna, Manesar, Farrukhnagar, Kharkhoda, and Sonipat.

This corridor was conceived as a broad-gauge double railway line for passengers and freight. Once completed, it will seamlessly link to dedicated freight corridors at Prithala and New Tauru and connect to the Indian Railways network at Patli, Sultanpur, Asaudha, and Harsana Kalan stations. It’s designed to handle 60 million tonnes of freight and 40 million passengers each way annually.
