Haryana CM Celebrates Athletes and Boosts Grassroots Sports

Haryana CM, Manohar Lal Khattar, lauds state athletes and fosters grassroots sports with honours and new facilities.
In a heartwarming event in Karnal, Haryana’s Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, celebrated and honoured the state’s talented athletes who excelled at the recent 19th Asian Games in China. Overwhelmed by their achievements, Khattar unveiled plans to establish two shooting ranges and two archery facilities in the state, to nurture young sporting talent. In addition to monetary awards, the Chief Minister also pledged to provide each medalist with 15 kg of desi ghee as a gesture of recognition.

Haryana Dominates Asian Games
Expressing immense pride in Haryana’s role in the success of Indian athletes on the international stage, Khattar revealed that out of the 44 medals won by Indian athletes at the Asian Games 2023, 30 were secured by Haryana’s 80 participating athletes.
Referring to Haryana’s sports stars as “Dhakad Jawan, Dhakad Kisand, and Dhakad Pehalwan,” the CM underlined the state’s consistent contributions to events like the Olympics, Par-Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games.
Khattar acknowledged the gold, silver, and bronze medalists with substantial cash awards and offered commendation letters and job opportunities in alignment with the state government’s sports policy.
Moreover, he unveiled plans to establish two shooting ranges, one in Nimana village (Jhajjar district) and another in Sector 32 (Panchkula), alongside two archery centres, one at Tejli Stadium (Yamunanagar) and another at the District Sports Complex (Faridabad).
Khelo India: Grassroots Sports Boost
The CM emphasized the state’s commitment to providing sports equipment for local events at the village level, making it more accessible for athletes. He further assured cash awards for winners of smaller local sports competitions, aligning them with mainstream sports events.
As part of the Khelo India Scheme, Khattar inaugurated ten Khelo India Centers, fostering the growth of sports across various districts. He announced that 15 Khelo India Centers had received approval from the Ministry of Sports, with 10 centres already inaugurated and five more scheduled for the following year in Hisar, Sirsa, Nuh, Sonipat, and Karnal.

Khattar also urged the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur, to consider establishing Khelo India Centers in the remaining 17 districts of Haryana, ensuring comprehensive coverage in all 22 districts.
Finally, the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the parents and coaches who have supported and inspired these athletes on their remarkable journeys. Although several renowned players, including Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, couldn’t attend the program due to prior commitments, the presence of 22 medallists made the event truly special.
