AAP Hopes for Alliance with Congress Amid Seat-Sharing Dispute in Haryana Assembly Elections
AAP and Congress are in talks for a Haryana assembly election alliance but face hurdles over seat-sharing. AAP is hopeful, while Congress remains cautious about its prospects.
Haryana Assembly Elections: AAP Seeks Alliance with Congress Amidst Disagreements Over Seat Allocation and Election Strategy
As Haryana goes to assembly polls in the coming months, AAP is in talks with Congress for the alliance. However, the two parties have not been able to reach an agreement on seat allocation which has stalled the discussion. While AAP wants the partnership more because it has proposed to contest 50 seats on its own, but due to Congress’s reluctance to offer more than 3-4 seats to AAP. This hesitance originates from Congress’s apprehension that taking a major stake of the Lok Sabha seats in Delhi with AAP might hamper its own base strongly in places like Kurukshetra where both parties have formidable contenders.

However, AAP is still hopeful about concluding the alliance saying there are always ways of overcoming such challenges. AAP MP Raghav Chadha has stated that attempts are still been made to come up with partnership that will serve the interest of Haryana and the country. The AAP Haryana president Sushil Gupta has clarified that the party is prepared for the worse by preparing for all ninety of the available seats but for the final order, they are still waiting for the word from the high command.

While AAP is lobbying for an alliance, Congress is quite hesitant since it understands that in the worst-case scenario; an unsuccessful alliance would put BJP in an advantageous position. However, both sides want if an accommodation is made, it will check the splitting of votes within the opposition divide and improve the prospects against the incumbent party in the state.
