Haryana Assembly Election 2024: Key Candidates and Major Political Rivalry as Voting Kicks Off Amidst High-Profile Campaigns

The Haryana Assembly Election 2024 started at 7 AM in the morning on October 5, 2024 and millions of voters of the state exercising their franchise at 20632 booths. 1,031 candidates are vying for the seats in all the 90 constituencies that are up for grabs. The results will be announced on October 8.

Like in other federations, this year’s election pits the ruling Congress party against its main rival, the BJP. The BJP is seeking the third term in Haryana with Nayab Singh Saini as its Chief Minister so after Manohar Lal Khattar’s 9.5-year-long term as CM. Khattar voted early in the morning for the targeted voting.

Some of the prominent candidates include wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who recently joined the Congress in September along with Bajrang Punia, an Olympic. Casting her influence in politics Phogat’s entry into the election scene has attracted a lot of attention, her campaign is bound to shape the outcome of the election.

Both the main parties have launched themselves into heady campaigns. Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally campaigned for BJP through four public meetings in Haryana where he also berated Congress on various issues like Ram Mandir. On the other hand, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was positive and said that “Congress lok apni aarakh lekar chunrha hai aur mohabbat ki dukan spendho mein leke aayega”.

The final is likely to be contested right down to the wire, hence the high profile placed on the election by the two parties as people continue to vote throughout the day.
