Gurugram Violence Spreads, Delhi on Alert

Gurugram: Following Monday’s communal clash in Nuh, Haryana, its impact reached Gurugram’s sector 70, less than 20 km from New Delhi. On Tuesday night, several shops and shanties near a residential complex were set ablaze.

Prohibitory Orders in Place:

As a preventive step, the authorities implemented prohibitory orders district-wide, which included a prohibition on selling loose petrol or diesel.Although there have been sporadic clashes in the city, the police stated that no major incident has taken place. They also urged citizens not to believe social media rumors and assured that all traffic is running as usual without any restrictions.

Religious Procession Clashes:

The violence originated during a religious procession in Nuh, located around 50 km from Delhi, following the circulation of an objectionable video. A mob attacked the procession, leading the participants to seek refuge in a temple. The violence escalated with a mosque being torched, more than a hundred vehicles vandalized, and two security personnel and two civilians killed.

Rioting was also reported in other Haryana districts, with mobs causing destruction and arson. In response, some multinational corporations like American Express and KPMG advised their employees to work from home for safety.

Security Measures Taken:

In the wake of these incidents, schools and colleges in certain areas were closed. Delhi authorities also sounded an alert, implementing enhanced patrolling and drone monitoring in sensitive regions to respond promptly to any potential situation arising from the neighboring disturbances.

It’s crucial for the public to rely on verified information and not spread misinformation during such tense situations. The authorities are working to maintain peace and security in the affected regions and surrounding areas.
