Gujarat Flood Crisis: Vadodara Placed on High Alert Amidst Severe Waterlogging
Vadodara faces severe flooding due to heavy rain, with 26 cm recorded in 24 hours. The IMD has issued a red alert for Gujarat as rescue operations intensify.
Vadodara Floods: Severe Waterlogging Hits City as Gujarat on Red Alert for Extreme Rainfall; Rescue Efforts in Full Swing Amidst Ongoing Crisis
After two days of continuous heavy rain, the city of Vadodara in the Indian state of Gujarat is struggling from severe waterlogging. It has now degenerated to a flood-like crisis, for which the India Meteorological Department has put out a Red Alert for excess rainfall in the state up to August 30.

On Monday alone, Vadodara received 26 cm of rains that caused water logs in various part of the city. Another factor that worsened the flooding was the opening of gates and subsequent release of a large amount of water by the Ajwa and Pratappura Reservoirs, which further led to its over flooding resulting to the flood water entering human settlements through the Vishwamitri River. Several parts of the city including streets and residential areas are flooded with water whose depth reaches up to knee level. The Kashi Vishwanath Mahadev Temple complex has also been flooded and therefore it operate on a limited basis temporarily.
Due to the heavy rainfall caused by deep depression that passed from east Rajasthan towards Saurashtra, there has been a lot of disruption. As the flood water continue to rise over a thousand people displaced in Vadodara. NDRF, SDRF and Defence forces are operating and searching for the people trapped due to the disaster.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has been keeping a close Check of the situation from the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), Gandhinagar. The last review show that 251 talukas spread across 33 districts of the state have reported rain in the last 24 hours, with the Tankara taluka in Morbi receiving the highest 347 millimeter of rain.

The infrastructure of the state is under immense pressure with many rivers crossing over the danger level, 21 lakes and many reservoirs. According to the last data the number of evacuees is equal to 23871 people and the number of saved people is 1696. Sadly, the rain-related disasters have cost seven rains, thus, including cases of wall collapses and drowning.
Officials with different security forces are appealing to the public to stay inside their houses and not move around aimlessly as the situation unfolds.
