G20 Summit: Global Leaders Gather in New Delhi, Some Countries Yet to Confirm Attendance
The G20 Summit, scheduled for September 9 and 10 in New Delhi, will see the participation of numerous global leaders representing the G20 nations. This year marks the 18th edition of the G20 Summit and India’s inaugural presidency.
Under the theme, Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam or One Earth, One Family, One Future, this year’s G20 Summit is in its final stages of preparation. In light of this event, central government offices, banks, and financial institutions in the national capital will remain closed from September 8 to 10.

The General Administration Department (GAD) of the Delhi government issued a notification stating that educational institutions, as well as government and private offices across the city, will observe a three-day closure.

Established in 1999, the G20 is composed of 19 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, and the US, along with the European Union.
The summit will witness the attendance of prominent world leaders, including:
United States: President Joe Biden will be present at the summit, where discussions among G20 partners will encompass a wide range of global issues such as clean energy transition, climate change mitigation, addressing the economic and social impacts of the Ukraine conflict, and strengthening multilateral development banks’ capacities to combat poverty.
United Kingdom: Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will participate in the summit. He is also anticipated to hold a separate bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss UK-India trade negotiations.
Republic of Korea: President Yoon Suk Yeol will be in attendance, expressing strong support for India’s G20 presidency and highlighting the culmination of efforts by the Indian Government.
France: President Emmanuel Macron will also participate in the G20 Summit, choosing to stay at the Claridges Hotel in New Delhi.
China: President Xi Jinping will be present at the summit, likely staying at the Taj Hotel and arriving with a substantial delegation of vehicles.
Canada: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed his attendance, emphasizing Canada’s solidarity with Ukraine.
Australia: Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will join the summit on September 9 and 10.
Bangladesh: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s attendance is confirmed, with the possibility of a bilateral meeting between her and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Russia: President Vladimir Putin will not attend in person, but Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will represent the nation at the meeting.

Several countries, including Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, Mexico, Japan, Italy, Germany, Indonesia, Brazil, and Argentina, are yet to confirm their attendance.
Around 160 domestic flights to and from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport have been cancelled from September 8 to 10 due to traffic restrictions arising from the summit. The cancellations are not attributed to aircraft parking limitations.
