The toll of suspected heatwave-related deaths has exceeded 200 in northern India, with Odisha bearing the brunt, reporting 45 casualties in a single day.

Total of confirmed deaths due to heatstrokes or similar heat-related heatwave diseases are over 200 deaths in northern India with Odisha receiving the worse setback of 45 deaths in one day. This takes the toll of losing precious lives to 211 while Odisha has topped this list with 141 lives lost. Hopes are that the current heat build up will subside in the next few days but worries still linger as the heat continues to cause havoc.

Heatwave-Related Deaths:
Already, over 200 suspected deaths related to heat stroke have been recorded and Odisha has been among the states hardest hit by the menace. At this, 45 people died in Odisha alone, taking the total toll in that state to 141 in a single day. We are now witnessing the outcome of severe heat in the United States: 211 people have died because of it across the nation.
One would expect that North India would face extreme heat during summer but the current heat wave situation has turned intolerable.
Heatwave/Heatstroke Related Deats In Odisha
One such district which has been a significant victim to this new form of heat stress is Sundargarh in Odisha where 35 people are reported to have died due to suspected heat strokes in just three days. The superintend of sundargarh has reportedly verbally affirmed to Ashutosh Kulkarni, the additional district magistrate, stating the fact that six people have died from heat stroke according to their last evidence and post mortem report. Sources from Balangir have indicated that there have been 20 deaths under suspicious circumstance within the district and four of which were indeed, caused by heat problems.
Heatwave/Heatstroke Related Deats In Uttar Pradesh
Five people died due to heat stroke in UP yesterday, while 11 other poll personnel embraced martyrdom across the country. The casualties were recorded in Mirzapur, Sonbhadra and Rae Bareli areas of Uttar Pradesh. The BRP along with the polling personal poll expressed their unwillingness to continue poll duty as 8 employees including five home guards lost their lives in Mirzapur. Finally, two of the polling staff lost their live after the occurrence of the event in Sonbhadra, and one in Rae Bareli.
Heatstroke Related Deats In Bihar
Heat Stroke kills one: In the same state of Bihar, a constable died during his duty in Aurangabad’s Daudnagar due to probably heat stroke. In one of the buses carrying Electoral Materials particularly Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) a constable was found unconscious and certified dead on arrival at Patna’s AlMS which is located at Bihta.
A few days ago, in Bihar, 14 people died of heatstroke, including 10 election officials, in a 24-hour period. The majority of these deaths happened in Bhojpur district. The Disaster Management Department confirmed the deaths, which occurred during the city’s extreme heatwave.
