Two conjoined girls from UP’S Bareilly get separated after a surgery done in AIIMS.
A family belonging to Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly was referred by a local hospital to AIIMS to ensure that they acquired a proper treatment plan for the conjoined girls, named Ridhi and Sidhi, who were fused at the chest and liver.
AIIMS doctor said on Wednesday, Conjoined twins Riddhi and Siddhi, who had been born last year and were joined from the chest and belly, have been successfully separated in a surgery that lasted over 12 hours at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
The twins were identified as ‘thoraco-omphalopagus conjoined twins’ in the fourth month of pregnancy, following which the family , basically from Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly, was referred by local doctors to AIIMS to ensure that the family acquired a right treatment plan for the girls and eventual separation of the girls, said by Minu Bajpai, head of the department of pediatric surgical operation at AIIMS.
“The 2 children were born last year on July 7 and had been inside the ICU (extensive care unit) for 5 months. They were separated on June eight after a 12 hour-long surgery,” the medical institution said in a declaration released on Wednesday.
The anomaly was peculiar, with fused rib cages, liver partly joined common diaphragms, and fused pericardium. Both hearts were very near to each other, almost touching and beating very closely.

“The steps taken by the doctors for the surgery are the separation of the common abdominal and chest walls, division of liver tissue in a way that sufficient tissue remained for each baby, and a division of fused rib cage. It also involved separation of the diaphragm, and of pericardium,”
After the surgical treatment, the twins celebrated their first birthday at the hospital.
