The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, has been introduced in the Lok Sabha to replace a contentious ordinance related to the control of services in Delhi. Opposition’s Stand :
The AAP, along with other opposition parties, has vehemently opposed the bill, viewing it as an infringement on the rights of Delhi’s elected government. AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Singh, has been actively seeking support from other parties to defeat the bill in the upper house. He argues that the bill goes against the principles of the Constitution and the country’s federal structure. The opposition sees this bill as a threat to democracy and a step towards giving excessive power to bureaucrats and the lieutenant governor.

BJP’s Perspective :
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on the other hand, possesses enough numbers in both houses of Parliament to secure the bill’s passage. The BJP claims that the bill aims to ensure a corruption-free administration in Delhi. They also assert that the elected AAP government has been attempting to exert undue influence over bureaucrats after the Supreme Court ruling.
