Manish Sisodia Visits Arvind Kejriwal’s Residence and Meets His Family After Being Granted Bail by Supreme Court Following Tihar Jail Release
AAP leader and former Delhi deputy chief minister, Manish Sisodia, paid a emotional visit to AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal’s residence after securing a bail from the apex court. Sisodia, who was released from Tihar Jail on August 9, 2024, with the intervention of the Supreme Court, was given a warm sendoff from Kejriwal’s family.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh and Atishi joined Sisodia for the visit to Kejriwal’s house, and it was a touching incident when Kejriwal and others embraced him. He apologized to Kejriwal’s parents by utteringnamese prostration towards them: it showed respect and appreciate. This decision came as other lower courts have been criticized for being too cautious in their handling of bail matters and especially in ln detention cases. As much as the bench observed that incarceration should rarely occur, the wish of the bench aligns with the importance of bails as they should not be used to punish the accused.

Sisodia was apprehended on February 26, 2023, by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with alleged corrupt practices in the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22. Later, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him in another money laundering case pertaining to the same charges. The release of Sisodia was possible after going through legal proceedings and multiple bail motions, which shows that the Supreme Court stands more for the principle of not convicting people before proving their guilt and for the saying that bails always remain a rule, not an exception.

The charges against Sisodia are based on offences that entail sabotaging the Delhi excise policy to benefit some liquor traders by offering them licences, in the process receiving bribes to fund AAP’s electoral campaigns in Goa. For every legal and political drama, Sisodia’s release can be perceived as a landmark in the Delhi excise policy.
