Congress Slams Kejriwal’s Resignation as a ‘Political Stunt’, Claims He Lost ‘Moral Right’ to Lead

Congress Chief Devender Yadav Criticizes Arvind Kejriwal’s Resignation as a ‘Political Stunt’, Claims AAP Leader Lost ‘Moral Right’ to Continue as Delhi Chief Minister Amid Corruption Case
The Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav has reacting sharply over the resignation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal describing it as a political drama. Yadav said Kejriwal had lost his ‘moral right to continue’ following a recent Supreme Court judgement restricting the AAP chief over a corruption case involving Delhi excise policy which emerged as part of a scam probe.

Yadav stated that Kejriwal had resigned from the post with an aim of winning the sympathy of the people particularly ahead of the assembly elections. He said, “The resignation is only a bid to create sensationalism to try and influence the voter’s perception of the performance of AAP.”
Another Congress leader also expressed surprise at Kejriwal’s resignation timing saying that it should have been tendered soon after April 6 when he was released from jail due to Supreme Court restrictions. Calling Kejriwal a sham, Yadav posed a rather valid question when he said, “Kejriwal should have resigned as soon as he was out of jail. Holding onto the position like this with so many restrictions make his actions look all the more suspicious. Why did you have to wait for two more days?”

To Kejriwal’s resignation, BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said that it was a plan to bring his wife Sunita Kejriwal as the next Chief Minister. Kejrival was criticised by Poonawalla on the basis that he is delaying the excise policy scandal through making his resignation from the post of chief minister an issue. Other BJP leaders termed the resignation as a ‘confession of crime’ and thought there must be some dissent within AAP.

The Supreme Court allowed Kejriwal conditional bail last Friday, he cannot go to his office, he cannot sign any official documents except with the permission of the Lieutenant Governor. The arrest through both the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) accused Kejriwal of conducting wrongdoings in the new excise policy.
