First Six-Coach Train for Delhi Metro Phase-IV Arrives
A latest addition to Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV project has reached the city with a six-coach train in hand. The train, built in India at the Alstom factory in Sricity near Chennai, was launched on September 23 and has been deployed on Delhi Metro’s Mukandpur depot primarily for tests and evaluations.

This metro train is in series of the phase-IV priority corridors out of 312 metro coaches (52 trains) for Majlis Park to Maujpur, Janakpuri West to R K Ashram Marg and Tughlakabad to Delhi Aerocity. First Six-Coach Train for Delhi Metro Phase-IV are designed for what the Indian press calls ‘driverless’ trains, enhancing the Delhi Metro’s endeavour to deliver nothing less than international standards to common people .

Key Features of the Trains:
– Designed for Safe Speed: They have been designed to run at up to 95 kmph, although their intended speed is 85 kmph

– Make in India Initiative_: Supercharging the effort of the government to ‘buy local
The Phase-IV expansion plan entails 86 km of track laying in five corridors in the national capital. Of the five corridors there are three active construction corridors and two corridors in the pre tender stage.

Corridor-Wise Coach Allocation:
– Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg_: 144 new coaches (24 trains)
– Mukundpur to Maujpur_: 90 new coaches (15 trains)
– Aerocity to Tughlakabad_: 78 new coaches (13 trains)
With this development, Delhi Metro inches closer to achieving it’s a vision of a network of 392.4 km with 288 Metro Stations across the National Capital Territory of India. These trains will also help millions of Delhiites improve their commutation experience.
