A month after the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s decision to allow carrying two sealed liquor bottles in the metro, the excise branch of the government has raised objection to the relaxation and demanded a change in the norm. A senior officer referred to the Excise Act to make clear that only one sealed bottle of liquor inclusive of rum, vodka is allowed to be carried from one station to another. As DMRC operates in Delhi and its adjacent cities Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad, its provision to allow two bottles is a contravention of the Act, the officer added.

The department additionally raised concern over relaxation in ages, at which alcohol is legally permissible. “In Delhi, liquor cannot be sold to every person under 25 years of age, whilst in cities like Gurugram, it is permissible for folks who are 18 years old. This indicates under-age individuals can carry liquor from one location to another in Delhi,” the officer similarly brought up the matter.
The public transport body stated that permitting objects for carriage on the metro is observed in keeping with the permissibility recommendations set through the security employer of the agency. “Passengers are expected to follow extant rules and guidelines of the involved excise department with reference to carrying liquor all through go-border transit,” news enterprise PTI stated mentioning DMRC. Formerly alcohol was banned on Delhi Metro along with on the Airport line, but, on June 30, the Authority allowed carrying two bottles in keeping with certain conditions which includes prohibiting drinking alcohol within the metro premises. Delhi Metro does now not allow passengers to keep any sort of sharp objects, tools, flammable items, explosive substances, Disabling chemical compounds and other dangerous objects, guns and firearms and other offensive objects.
