Through video conference, Arvind Kejriwal appeared before a Delhi court on Tuesday. In connection with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case against the Chief Minister of Delhi, judicial custody has been extended.
On March 21, Kejriwal was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case involving the excise policy. On June 20, the trial judge in ED’s case against him granted him bail. The CBI has filed a supplementary charge sheet against Kejriwal, and the court is currently considering whether to accept the allegations.
According to the CBI, there is proof that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal promised to give Rs 90 lakhs to every candidate running in 40 Goa Assembly seats. The central agency stated that all election-related expenses were the responsibility of AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak, who oversaw the Goa campaign. The CBI further asserted that there was proof that the money came from the South Group as well.
The CBI stated in a detailed affidavit in response to Kejriwal’s appeal contesting the central agency’s detention of him that Kejriwal directed the making of all significant decisions pertaining to the now-repeated excise policy, working with Manish Sisodia, the deputy chief minister at the time. Kejriwal was charged by the CBI with trying to “politically sensationalize” the case, claiming that he was a key player in the criminal conspiracy that oversaw the creation and execution of the excise policy. The agency claimed Kejriwal was “purposely derailing” the inquiry, therefore they said his detention on June 26 was necessary to guarantee a fair outcome.
