Delhi Disrupts: Dense Fog and Cold Wave Bring City to a Standstill, Disrupting Train and Flight Services
A thick blanket of fog has engulfed Delhi, causing widespread disruptions to transportation services in the city. The dense fog, which reduced visibility to just 50 meters in some areas, has delayed 27 trains and impacted flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The cold wave, which has been sweeping across North India, has brought temperatures in Delhi down to a chilling 4 degrees Celsius, making it one of the coldest days of the season. The fog, which started forming around 4 am, has shown no signs of lifting, with the Meteorological Department predicting that it will persist throughout the day.
The disruptions to train services have left thousands of passengers stranded, with many trains running hours behind schedule. The Northern Railway has announced that 27 trains have been delayed, including several prominent routes such as the Shatabdi Express and the Rajdhani Express.
Flight operations at the Delhi airport have also been impacted, with several flights being delayed or cancelled. The airport authorities have issued an advisory, warning passengers of possible disruptions to flight services due to the fog.
The dense fog has also caused chaos on the city’s roads, with visibility reduced to almost zero in some areas. The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory, warning drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic rules to avoid accidents.
The cold wave and fog have brought the city to a standstill, with many schools and offices closing early. The Delhi government has also issued a health advisory, warning people to take precautions against the cold and to stay indoors as much as possible.
As the city struggles to cope with the disruptions, the Meteorological Department has predicted that the fog will persist for the next few days, with temperatures expected to remain low. The people of Delhi can only hope that the weather improves soon, and the city returns to normal.
