Delhi Court Summons Lalu Prasad Yadav and Others in Land-for-Job Scam Case, CBI filed a charge sheet, coinciding with opposition parties’ unity against BJP.

On September 22, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court issued a summons to former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav, along with former railway officials and other accused individuals in a land-for-job scam case. They are required to appear in court on October 4.

The central investigative agency informed Special Judge Geetanjali Goel that they have obtained the necessary approvals from competent authorities for individuals named Maheep Kapur, Manoj Pande, and P L Bankar.

Railway Job Scam’s Lalu & Associates

The case revolves around allegations of Group-D job appointments within the West Central Zone of the railways in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, during Lalu Prasad’s tenure as the railway minister from 2004 to 2009. These appointments allegedly involved land transactions benefiting Lalu Prasad’s family or associates. The case was registered on May 18, 2022, against Lalu Prasad and 15 others, including his wife and two daughters, as well as unidentified public servants and private individuals.

The accused individuals face charges under sections of the Indian Penal Code related to criminal conspiracy and cheating, among others, as well as provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

CBI Charge Sheet & Political Unity

This development follows a charge sheet filed by the CBI against Lalu Prasad, Rabri Devi, and others in October of the previous year, which was related to appointments made in the Central Zone of the railways. The issuance of the summons coincides with the opposition parties’ resolve, including Lalu Prasad’s RJD, to unite against the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, as decided in a meeting in Patna on June 23.
