Delhi court: Former WFI Chief Denies Harassment Charges

Former WFI chief denies harassment allegations. Delhi Court hearing set for October 16; discrepancies in FIR date and police pressure raised by Singh's lawyer.

Brij Bhushan Case: Delhi Court hearing scheduled for October 16

The court in Delhi is scheduled to resume the hearing on charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on October 16. Singh, the former head of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and a BJP MP, vehemently refuted the sexual harassment accusations, dismissing them as baseless and motivated by hidden agendas.

During the hearing, Singh presented his case before the additional chief metropolitan magistrate, Harjeet Singh Jaspal. The court was examining the charges brought forward by six female wrestlers.

FIR Date Discrepancy and Police Pressure

Singh’s legal representative, advocate Rajiv Mohan, argued that the FIR in this case was filed on April 28, 2023, but no specific incidents from that date were mentioned. He also contended that undue pressure was exerted on the police, preventing them from conducting a fair preliminary inquiry and gathering evidence.

After hearing these arguments in part, the court scheduled further proceedings related to the charges for October 16. During this next hearing, arguments will be presented on behalf of both Singh and another WFI official, Vinod Tomar.

The Delhi Police had submitted a comprehensive 1,599-page chargesheet on June 15, outlining the various allegations made by the six female wrestlers. The court acknowledged the chargesheet on July 7 and issued summonses to both Singh and Tomar.
