Delhi Air Quality: Perpetual ‘Poor’ Conditions
Delhi air quality grapples with 'poor' air quality, set to persist until Saturday. Concerns loom over farm fires contributing to rising pollution levels. Ongoing challenges for the region.
Delhi’s air quality Stuck in the ‘Poor’ Range, Future Predictions Offer Little Respite
As we step into another day in Delhi, the air quality continues to linger in the “poor” category, with an AQI of 252 at 8 a.m., according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This follows Wednesday’s AQI of 243, signalling an ongoing challenge for the Delhi air quality.
EWS Warning
The CPCB grades air quality on a scale from “good” to “severe,” and Delhi is currently grappling with “poor” air. The Early Warning System (EWS) had previously predicted this trend, indicating that “poor” air quality is likely to persist until Saturday due to stable meteorological conditions.

Looking ahead, the weekend doesn’t promise much relief either, with the air quality expected to stay in the upper range of the “poor” category on Saturday. EWS warns that the following days might see Delhi oscillating between “poor” and “very poor” air quality.
Amid these concerns, it’s worth noting that Delhi’s maximum temperature is slightly below the usual for this time of year, settling at 15.8°C on Thursday.
Farm Fires and Pollution
The India Meteorological Department’s forecast suggests a maximum temperature of around 31°C for the day. However, an increase in farm fires in northern states is contributing to the rising pollution levels. While the fire count has begun earlier this year, the significant spike typically occurs by late October and early November. These factors underline the need for sustained efforts to address air quality challenges in the region.
