Cable Theft Causes Disruptions on Delhi Metro’s Blue Line – Passengers Advised to Brace for Delays
Cable theft disrupts Delhi Metro's Blue Line services, causing delays. DMRC advises passengers to plan ahead; repairs scheduled for night hours.
Delhi Metro Blue Line Disruption: Cable Theft Between Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar Causes Delays, Repairs Scheduled Overnight
Delhi commuters were frustrated on Thursday as services on the Delhi Metro’s Blue Line were affected by cable theft between Moti Nagar and Kirti Nagar stations. It caused a lot of delay, so DMRC issued advisories for passengers to plan their journey with extra time.
DMRC Admits to the Problem
The DMRC, which took to social media platform X to comment on the development, expressed regret for the inconvenience caused. In a later post, the corporation clarified that the necessary repairs would only be undertaken during non-operational hours, and normalcy was expected to resume by Friday morning.

“Since trains will operate at restricted speed on the affected section during the day, there would be some delay in services. Passengers are requested to plan their journeys accordingly as the journey shall take some additional time,” DMRC stated.
Service Updates on Blue Line
Signaling cables on the Blue Line have reportedly been tampered with because of theft and, accordingly, resulted in restricted speed operation and bunching of trains in that particular stretch, without a cause for problems at other locations on the stretch. Thus, delays occurred in the affected stretch as well which caused ripples and thus inconvenienced people traveling at peak hours. DMRC also promised its commuters to conduct the repairing during the night, thus minimally disturbing during day time.
“To avoid inconvenience to the public during the day, the necessary repair will be undertaken during night hours after the closing of the revenue service,” DMRC noted.
Importance of the Blue Line
The Blue Line is one of the most crowded corridors of Delhi Metro, which connects Dwarka in west Delhi to Noida and Vaishali in the neighboring Uttar Pradesh. It passes through all the key locations like Rajiv Chowk, Yamuna Bank, and Noida Sector 18 and has been a lifeline for thousands of commuters daily. Disruption on this line creates widespread delays and overcrowding across the network.

Challenges for Commuters
Long waiting hours, as well as crowded platforms of the Blue Line, are attributed to the restricted speed at which the trains have to move. Many complained of recurrent breakdowns due to acts of vandalism or theft. DMRC keeps on improving security measures while ensuring efficiency, and incidents like these expose flaws in the metro’s structure.
With the unfolding situation, commuters are suggested to be updated on DMRC’s official channels and alternative routes to take. Passengers can look forward to smooth functioning by Friday since repair work has been scheduled at night time. But this recurrent affair of cable theft needs tougher measures for safeguarding the public transport infrastructure.
