Arvind Kejriwal to Resign as Delhi Chief Minister Today: Key Contenders for the Next CM and What to Expect from the Aam Aadmi Party’s Leadership Transition
The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to resign today in the evening as stated by the AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj. Kejriwal will resign from his CM post in a formal letter to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and it will be handed to the media at 4:30 PM. After that, the AAP’s top leadership will meet to discuss the party’s next step forward as directed by Kumar Vishwas. The all-important meeting to finalise the successor to Kejriwal is slated for 11:30 AM today.
This legislative party meeting is also believed to see the AAP decide on who will eventually become the next chief minister. Kejriwal has been quietly taking the pulse of senior party colleagues, including Sisodia and party spokesman Raghav Chadha on possible candidates. The following were reported to be on the list of contenders for the deputy chief minister post, Atishi, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Sunita Kejriwal Saurabh Bharadwaj, Raghav Chadha and Sanjay Singh.

The current resignation was followed soon after Kejriwal received a bail on the corruption case associated with the liquor policy. In his speech to the party leaders, Kejriwal said the new chief minister would be announced soon within the next two days, and further stressed that Manish Sisodia would not be considered for the post. He also suggested the holding of Delhi’s forthcoming elections in November this year in line with the Maharashtra elections.
