Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has resigned from his position. On September 17, he visited the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat with AAP legislators to submit his resignation and request to form a new government led by Atishi. Kejriwal plans to live without the official benefits and security that come with being a Chief Minister. Despite past threats to his safety, he is determined to live like an ordinary citizen, stating, “I have lived in jail for six months, God saved me then, God will save me now.”

There are concerns about what will happen to the free services currently provided in Delhi. Sanjay Singh, an AAP leader, pointed out that the Prime Minister had suggested these free services might end when Kejriwal is no longer in office. Singh questioned whether the BJP, the ruling party, would stop these services. He also raised concerns about Kejriwal’s security, noting that, unlike other politicians who have been given residences, Kejriwal’s new living arrangements have not been decided yet.
As part of the transition, Atishi has been chosen to replace Kejriwal as Chief Minister. Her appointment was proposed by Kejriwal and approved by all AAP MLAs. Atishi is MLA from the Kalkaji constituency. According to sources Atishi will take the oath of office during a special Assembly session scheduled for September 26-27. There will be no Deputy Chief Minister under her leadership.
The details about where Kejriwal will live after resigning are still unclear. Although leaders of other national parties are typically allotted residences, Kejriwal has decided to leave his official residence and live among the people, reflecting his commitment to simplicity and public service
