Muslim Leaders Campaign to protect Delhi Waqf properties, blames AAP MLA
Allegations levelled against AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan for selling Delhi Waqf properties
The Central government has decided to take over 123 Delhi Waqf Properties listed under the Delhi Waqf Board. These properties include everything from the mosques to the graveyards. However, Karbala of Jor Bagh has made serious allegations against Waqf Board President, Amanatullah Khan and CM Arvind Kejriwal in a press conference which was held on 20th February.
The VHP (Vishva Hindu Parishad) filed a case in the court claiming that the government had declared 123 properties as property belonging to the Waqf Board. However, the other government constituted a two-member committee to investigate the matter, and after that, a notice was issued regarding the Waqf property. But in this case, Waqf Board Chairman Amanatullah Khan did not respond properly.
However, Karbala Jor Bagh held a press conference regarding this whole matter, which was presided over by Syed Bahadur Abbas Naqvi, General Secretary, Anjuman-e-Haideri, largest Shia organization of India, Karbala, Jor Bagh, Maulana Kalbe Jawad, Advocate Mahmood Pracha, along with many other members were present. Regarding the Waqf Board, several big revelations have been made in this. Many allegations have been levelled against Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and it said that Karbala of Jor Bagh is also included in those 123 properties. In contrast, the fact is that Karbala has been here for hundreds of years.
Naqvi said that in the two-member committee that every time they had given evidence regarding the property of the Waqf Board, the party could not present any evidence against it. He also claimed that a big conspiracy had been done on behalf of Kejriwal and Amanatullah Khan in this whole matter, and no board could pass the resolution.
However, Amanatullah khan said he would not allow the Central government to take over the Waqf properties. The decision to “absolve” the Waqf board from all matters relating to the 123 Waqf properties was conveyed to the board in a letter from the deputy Land and Development officer on February 8th.
According to the Land and Development Office (L&DO) of the Central government, the two-member committee led by Judge (retired) S. P. Garg, on the subject of de-notified Waqf assets, it had not received any objections or representations from the Delhi Waqf Board.
The notice also stated that the board received an opportunity following their application dated December 2nd but it has yet to make submissions or objections. Despite the board’s admitted status as the “main stakeholder,” it rejected the claim in response, claiming that the committee had not shared any reports with them.
Khan also questioned whether the committee’s formation was legal, given that the case is still ongoing in court. “We submitted a letter to the two-member committee on April 12, 2022, stating that we are contesting the committee’s establishment because we are the primary investor in these properties”, Khan said.
The official claimed that The Indraprastha-Vishwa Hindu Parishad challenged the property in court, and the UPA government gave these assets on a one-rupee lease in court in the 1980s. The report was not released to the board or the public because it favoured the Waqf, so another “two-member” committee was formed. “The court formed the one-member committee to look into it,” the official said.
Khan said, “Majority of these properties are mosques and cemeteries. What will the government do with them after acquiring them?” Welcoming this decision, Alok Kumar, Central working President of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, said, “After a long legal battle, we have saved 123 such properties worth rs.20,000 crores from going to the illegal occupation of the board.”
Khan claimed that because the L&DO has put notices on 123 properties, the Muslim community has experienced widespread anxiety, fear, and resentment. Board created management committees or mutawallis to oversee these 123 properties on daily basis.
“We have already spoken up in court on 123 Waqf properties; the High Court is currently hearing our Writ Petition No.1961/2022”, Khan added.
“Some people are circulating false information about it, and the evidence is right before you all. He stated in a tweet that “we would not permit anyone to occupy the properties of the Waqf Board.”

According to Khan, “the Waqf Act of 1995’s Section 32 grants the Delhi Waqf Board the legal authority to manage these properties through general supervision, administration, and control”.
“The concerned Waqf Board owns all Waqf properties, in this case, the Delhi Waqf Board, under the Waqf Act”, said Mr Khan.
Since all 123 properties were religious places like mosques, dargahs, and cemeteries, their Waqf status was “innate.” Khan said some of these were provided by the Sunni Majlis Auqaf, by the British rulers to the Delhi Waqf Board.
Shia Cleric’s Stand
The chief patron of Anjuman-e Haidri, Maulana Syed Kalbe Jawad Naqvi, stated that the case to seize these properties appears to be more of connivance than negligence for the following reasons, he said, “This action served a two-fold purpose of usurping Waqf properties and gaining political mileage as well as trying to garner the sympathy of the Muslim community.”
Naqvi also said, ” the Waqf property is in danger, now here, if any government people come to take possession, then the people of the Muslim community will stand here in its defence. In this case, they file an FIR against Kejriwal and Amantullah Khan”.
