Waterlogged Chaos: Delhi NCR Commutes Halted by Heavy Rains
Heavy rain in Delhi NCR caused severe waterlogging, turning daily commutes into a struggle as key routes were submerged, exposing the region’s poor infrastructure.
Delhi NCR Commutes Transform into Water Expeditions as Heavy Rain Exposes Infrastructure Flaws and Causes Severe Waterlogging
Delhi NCR has been receiving intermittent rainfall for three consecutive days now, transforming daily chugs into tortuous ones which has exposed the hitherto unseen poor planning of the region. Important roads in both Delhi and Gurugram have developed issues of water stagnation during rainy season leading to traffic jam especially during rush hours. People on their way to workplaces and students dropped at school were greatly affected as roads were waterlogged thereby compounding the confusion.
Even though the rainfall received today was average the situation was still terrible as poor drainage systems could not drain the water accumulated. Realising that but for the bridge connecting them, the two regions had mutually exclusive infrastructure facilities, frustrated commuters poured their hearts out on the social media. Another user, Shruti Mallick, had this to say in a less than serious comment about the dilapidated environment : “We are planning to compete with mega cities like Dubai,” she said, while laughing along with amused fellow Youtube viewers as she posted a video of cars driving through floodwater.

Sometimes some residents attempted to bring humor in the situation in order to get some kind of a chuckle out of whoever was listening. A commuter, Neetu Garg facetiously said, “Should I write driving or boating at the office?” Some users noticed that this was not the first time such incidents occurred, as user Satish Dangi suggested that swimming should be a mandatory requirement if one were to have a job in Gurugram corporate world based on the floods.

The downpour, which started on Wednesday, led to many important roads such as the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway, Sohna Road, and Golf Course Extension Road being submerged. Even though the rain seems to be lighter now, it is not the end of the trouble for Delhi NCR’s commute who are increasingly demanding better infrastructure.
