Delhi was caught in chaos on Wednesday after the down pour wash away the beauty of the city by turning the area into a swimming pool. The heavy rains that was coupled with strong winds and lightening caused a lot of havoc by causing water logging and flooding of many homes and massive traffic jams. The IMD put a ‘red alert’ towards the end of the day and as a measure to protect the children from the scorching heat, schools in Delhi were closed on August 1.

Challenges experienced by the residents included; flooding of roads, high fares charged by cab operators, and water infiltration into their homes. This social media turned out to be a tool for disappointed citizens to protest and post pictures of the floods. Some people complained that the national capital had poor facilities; they said that a city could be paralyzed by rain.

X user Yasmin Kidwai tweeted about the intensity of the problem; ‘South Delhi – ring road all traffic blocked within two mins of rain – there is NO Drainage in Delhi; Another user posted a video showing a staircase resembling a waterfall and added ‘Just 20 mins of rain in Delhi today and look how Karol Bagh is already screwed.

The IMD pointed out that clouds had accumulated around Delhi in all four quadrants hence they urged people to avoid travelling. Nevertheless, with the latest Delhi rain proving that the city’s drainage systems are far from perfect, the Indian capital’s citizens and administration are now facing the consequences or, rather, aftermath of the monsoon chaos.
