CM Biren Singh: Internet Ban in Manipur to Be Lifted from Today

Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh, has announced the end of a prolonged internet ban in Manipur, citing concerns about its effectiveness and the need to uphold people's rights and freedoms.

Disturbing Incident In Manipur

The incident that triggered the internet ban occurred on July 20, 2023, when a disturbing video surfaced. The video depicted the horrifying spectacle of two women being publicly humiliated, subjected to sexual assault, and paraded naked by a group of men. This incident drew national and international attention and prompted a response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who broke his silence to condemn the actions as a disgrace to India.

As the internet ban is finally lifted, it raises questions about the effectiveness of such measures in addressing law and order issues and highlights the importance of safeguarding the fundamental rights and freedoms of the people, including access to information and communication.
