CBI Court Rejects Bail Plea -says RG Kar Ex-Principal Can Be Hanged If Allegations Are Found True
Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was denied bail by a designated CBI court, noting that the charges against him are serious and, if proven, carry the death penalty. Ghosh and Abhijit Mondal, the former official in charge of Tala police station, were detained by the CBI on August 9 for allegedly tampering with evidence and delaying the filing of a formal complaint on the rape and murder of a doctor at the state-run hospital.

Dey noted that the charge is serious and that, should it be proven true, it could result in the death penalty, which is only applied in extremely rare circumstances. According to the judge, “releasing the accused on bail would be injustice, flouting the principle of equity.”
