BJP MPs Sarangi, Rajput injured in Parliament scuffle, protests erupt over Amit Shah’s Ambedkar remarks

A scuffle in Parliament over Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on B.R. Ambedkar turned violent on Thursday, leaving BJP MPs Pratap Chandra Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput injured. Both MPs were rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi and are currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

According to hospital spokesperson Ajay Shukla, Pratap Sarangi suffered a deep head wound, resulting in significant blood loss. Doctors have stitched the injury and are monitoring his condition closely. Mukesh Rajput sustained a head injury and reported high blood pressure. Both are undergoing tests, including CT scans, to assess their injuries.

Members of Parliament battled on the stairs during tense protests in Parliament. Amit Shah was asked to apologise by opposition members for allegedly insulting Ambedkar with his “fashion” comments. In response, the BJP charged that the Congress had harassed them and used force to prevent them from entering Parliament.

The protests saw both the BJP and the Opposition staging demonstrations. INDIA bloc MPs, dressed in blue—a color associated with Ambedkar—held placards and shouted slogans demanding Amit Shah’s resignation. They also organized a march, beginning at Ambedkar’s statue within the Parliament premises.

Meanwhile, the BJP-led NDA carried out its own march, accusing the Opposition of insulting Ambedkar. The confrontation escalated into loud sloganeering and physical altercations near the Makar Dar area of Parliament.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the violence and wished the injured MPs a speedy recovery. Parliament sessions in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned amid the uproar.
