Bengeluru: The first day of the opposition gathering in Bengaluru witnessed a significant conversation between Sonia Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee, leading to a delay in the meeting’s commencement. Leaders from 26 opposition parties came together to forge a united front against the ruling BJP in the upcoming national election. The potential appointment of Sonia Gandhi as the front’s president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as the convenor was a topic of discussion.

During their interaction, Sonia and Mamata addressed the tensions between Trinamool Congress and Left parties in Bengal. Lalu Yadav, who shares close ties with both leaders, expressed support for Mamata Banerjee and emphasized the need for unity among opposition parties. Even after Sonia, Lalu, Mamata, MK Stalin, and Nitish left, the discussions continued.

The primary objective of the gathering was to determine the agenda for the formal talks and explore potential names for the opposition front, with the consensus of having “India” as part of its title.
