A Bengaluru man killed his wife, stuffed her corpse in a suitcase, and fled to Pune where he was discovered unconscious after having ingested poison.

Crime Shocks
Recently, a Bengaluru police have taken Rakesh into custody for allegedly murdering his wife, Gauri Anil Sambekar, and attempting to escape punishment. The couple, originally from Maharashtra, had been living in Doddakannahalli under the jurisdiction of the Hulimavu police station for the last two months.

Rakesh, who worked as a project manager at Hitachi, reportedly had frequent bickers with his wife, who was previously involved in mass media but currently did not possess any job. Their married life had turned volatile, with reports also indicating that Gauri had assaulted him many times.

The bloody incident occurred on March 26 after an altercation turned ugly. In a fit of rage, Rakesh plunged a knife into Gauri’s stomach before slicing her throat. He went on to fit her body in a suitcase and in the bathroom of their apartment just before fleeing the scene.

The Gymnastic Discovery
The murder came to light, when Rakesh confessed to taking Gauri’s parents to the police, alerting them to murder. Alarmed by his confession, her family immediately informed the police, who rushed to the scene.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Sarah Fathima revealed that the authorities received a report regarding a suspected hanging case then around 5:30 PM. However, upon reaching the apartment, officers found the door locked. Entry was gained, and in the bathroom, there was a suitcase discovered. Inside that suitcase, opened by forensic personnel, lay the body of Gauri, riddled with marks of injury.

Tracking The Fugitive
Rakesh out of the scene, investigators hurriedly began tracing his whereabouts. Tracing the smartphones calls, police tracked his travel back to Pune. Authorities in Pune have been warned right away and a swift operation was organized to nab the fugitive.

Rakesh was found unconscious inside a car in Satara’s Pargaon Khandala area. He had allegedly consumed a poison-like substance, possibly in an attempt to end his life. Locals found him in distress and informed the police, who rushed him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A team from the Hulimavu police station has now traveled to Pune to take him into custody and bring him back to Bengaluru for further investigation.

Ongoing Investigation DCP Sarah Fathima clarified that the victim’s corpse was intact and not dismembered. The nature of the injury inflicted upon her will be ascertained after a detailed postmortem examination.

While the investigation is still underway, police are working to establish the complete sequence of events and determine the additional motives behind the crime. Further legal proceedings will follow as soon as Rakesh recovers from his poisoning attempt. This incidence trembled the whole city by the dark cost of escalating into these internal conflicts.
