This is the second instance of an Ola customer venting anger against the services of the company. In September earlier this year, a 26-year-old Karnataka man was arrested for allegedly setting fire to an Ola Electric showroom after poor service on his newly purchased e-scooter. According to reports, the customer had suffered servicing issues which culminated in the violent incident.
The latest viral video is but one of several growing signals of discontent with Ola’s service centers. In the last few months, some reports have come up suggesting that there are huge backlogs at Ola’s service centers, with employees failing to maintain the pace of complaints. With customers lodging complaints about even delayed repair and poor after-sales service, the reputation of the company has been affected. Adding fuel to the fire, Ola has also announced it is planning to lay off at least 500 employees as part of restructuring that will improve operational efficiency and eliminate redundancies. The move, expected to affect customers and employees alike, comes amid the company’s financial struggles.
Ola’s net loss for the July-September quarter of FY25 was ₹495 crore, a 43% increase compared to the previous quarter, and the company’s revenue saw a significant drop of 26.1%. With internal issues brewing and increasing anger at the company, it remains to be seen what Ola will do to counter these building pressures. In the meantime, such incidents as the one featured on that viral video may only feed that fire further.
