Akhilesh Yadav Slams UP Government for Prayagraj Traffic Chaos During Maha Kumbh
Akhilesh Yadav criticises the Uttar Pradesh government for the Prayagraj traffic jam during Maha Kumbh
Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has strongly criticized the Uttar Pradesh government and administration for severe traffic jams in Prayagraj during the ongoing Maha Kumbh. He called the situation “extremely serious” and highlighted the difficulties faced by devotees and residents due to the chaos.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Akhilesh Yadav expressed concern over the hundreds of kilometers-long traffic jams on roads leading to Prayagraj. He stated that the gridlock has disrupted the supply of essential items like food, vegetables, medicines, and fuel, leaving millions of devotees and residents hungry, thirsty, and exhausted. “This is an extremely serious situation,” he wrote, adding that the mismanagement has worsened by the hour.

Akhilesh Yadav also questioned the competence of the current government and administration, asking who should be given control of the Maha Kumbh management. “When the constitutional system fails, the command is handed over to someone else. Seeing the mismanagement at the Maha Kumbh, who should be given the reins of governance? Incompetent people can only do false propaganda, not true administration,” he said.
In a follow-up post, Akhilesh painted a grim picture of the situation, stating that many devotees have fallen unconscious due to the lack of basic facilities. He also pointed out that people’s phone batteries have died, cutting off communication with their families and adding to their distress. Additionally, he highlighted the plight of ground staff, including constables, sanitation workers, and other employees, who are working day and night without access to food and water. “Officers are giving orders from their rooms but are not coming to the ground to address the issues,” he said.

The traffic jams, reportedly stretching 200-300 kilometers, have left devotees stranded in their vehicles, particularly those traveling from Madhya Pradesh. Social media users have described the gridlock as “possibly the biggest in the world,” sharing their struggles online. Police officials have also acknowledged the severity of the situation, stating that it is nearly impossible to move toward Prayagraj due to the congestion.
The Maha Kumbh, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, is being held in Prayagraj until February 26. The event has already seen a massive turnout of 40 crore devotees, with numbers expected to rise in the coming weeks. The traffic chaos has raised serious concerns about the administration’s ability to handle such large-scale events.
