Three accused railway staff in the Balasore train accident have been sent to judicial custody. They face multiple charges, including culpable homicide, as the investigation continues. The tragic collision claimed 293 lives and injured over 1,200.

Three Accused in Railway Staff In Balasore train disaster have been sent to judicial custody by a special court in Bhubaneswar after their CBI remand period ended. Arun Kumar Mahanta, Mohammed Amir Khan, and Pappu Kumar, who were suspended by the Railways, appeared before the CBI Special Court on Friday. The CBI had arrested the accused on July 7 and was granted a five-day remand by the court. The remand period was later extended for four more days. The next hearing is scheduled for July 27.

Accused Face Multiple Charges:

The accused have been charged under IPC Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence), as well as Section 153 of the Railways Act. The Commissioner of Railway Safety’s inquiry report stated that the accident occurred due to “lapses” in the signaling circuit alteration, although the CBI is yet to submit its own report on the case.

Deadly Collision in Balasore:

The tragic incident took place on June 2 when the Coromandel Express collided with a stationary freight train at Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore district. The crash resulted in the deaths of 293 people and left over 1,200 injured. Some of the derailed coaches also collided with the Yeshwantpur-Howrah Express.

Legal Progress in Balasore:

The judicial custody of the accused railway officials signifies a significant step in the legal proceedings surrounding the Balasore train disaster.
