Bombay High Court Orders CBI Investigation into Abhishek Ghosalkar Murder Case, Citing Significant Lapses in Mumbai Police Probe and Need for Thorough Inquiry
On Friday, the Bombay High Court ordered the CBI to take over the investigating roles into the murder of the former Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar. The move was made after the court noted serious deficiencies and some questions, which were left unanswered in Mumbai Police probe. Presenting a petition before Justice Revati Mohite Dere, hearing a division bench, Tejasvee Abhishek Ghosalkar claimed that the Mumbai Police has not conducted a thorough investigation of her husband’s murder and urged to transfer the case to the CBI for further investigation.
The arguments before the court were submitted that poor angle of investigation had been taken leaving the court with a rough chance of a miscarriage of justice. In the case the bench said, “We have gone through the investigation carried out and recorded that while there are some loose ends/areas which have not been examined by police”. In order to handle such problems and for the justice to prevail, the court directed that the case be handed over to the CBI and as per that all the documents needed for the case should be handed over within two weeks.

Abhishek Ghosalkar, the YouTube and TV star was killed on February 8 during the Facebook live at his Borivali office by the local businessman named Mauris Noronha. After the murder, Noronha killed himself too. Police investigation further pointed out that Noronha was annoyed with Ghosalkar who had interfered in his political life and in a rape case against Noronha.
Bombay High Court say that due to petty negligence or mistakes by the police in high profile cases, justice may be denied and therefore there is need to investigate this case fully. While the police tried to justify the lack of progress by claiming that they have done their best, the court pointed out that some core components of the case have been overlooked, which contributed to the case being transferred to CBI.
