AAP’s Downfall: Kejriwal’s Hubris Loses Delhi Election Momentum
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) maintains power in Delhi with diminishing intensity which causes people to question their lasting presence in politics. The failure of the Aam Aadmi Party emerged because its leader Arvind Kejriwal and the party displayed excessive confidence. During Delhi assembly elections the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 48 seats out of 70 while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) received just 22 seats. The AAP faces a major crisis that challenges both its future and the position of Kejriwal as its leader.
Kejriwal faced difficulties by operating independently in the elections as he chose not to form an alliance with the Congress despite this decision being considered a strategic error. The AAP received widespread popularity through its distribution of free services to disadvantaged citizens but the BJP succeeded with its plans to provide monthly payments to female recipients combined with cheap cooking fuel and additional welfare benefits. The AAP faced setbacks because it failed to adjust its tactics to new political conditions while neglecting support for middle-class constituents.
The BJP achieved a major political victory in Delhi which proves beneficial for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party as the party sought to regain national capital power after a 27-year absence. The AAP’s defeat serves Kejriwal with serious consequences and forces his party to analyze and rebuild its approach toward its general electorate. The future development of AAP will be intriguing because the party moved to a constructive position after the election defeat but it remains to be seen if they will recapture past growth. A victory for the BJP shows the people of Delhi seek fresh leadership because the AAP must analyze its mistakes to stage a triumphant return.
