A farmer’s 400 kg of tomatoes, harvested and stacked in a vehicle outside his residence in Maharashtra’s Pune, have reportedly been stolen, the police said on Friday.

The farmer asserts that he had stored the tomatoes in 20 crates in a motor automobile  parked outside his residence on Sunday, at night time, the police stated. When the farmer awoke the following morning, he noticed that the crates were missing. He searched inside the place and found out that his tomatoes were stolen.

Based on the complaint, a case of robbery has been registered against the unidentified individuals, and a probe has been initiated. “We’re similarly searching into the case,” the officer reported.

The robbery happened at a time when the tomato expenses have already shot up inside the markets across the United States of America from ₹ 10-20 per kg to a price of ₹ 80 per kg. The purpose behind this is the dip in supply because of heatwaves in tomato-cultivation areas and heavy rain.
