The opposition’s alliance, now known as INDIA – Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance, has sparked a new debate between the terms “India” and “Bharat.” The alliance, comprising 26 opposition parties, including Congress, Trinamool, AAP, DMK, NCP, and CPM, held a two-day meeting in Bengaluru to replace the 2004 UPA. After a lengthy discussion, they settled on the name “Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance” with “developmental” chosen over “democracy” as the representation for the letter ‘D’ in INDIA.

The alliance’s slogan, “Jeetega Bharat (India will win),” will be translated into regional languages. Rahul Gandhi hinted at the new slogan in a tweet, writing, “Bharat judega, INDIA jitega.”
