Approximately 20 humans have been missing in Bhutan after flash floods triggered through heavy rains washed away a segment of a small hydroelectric plant on Thursday, a local newspaper suggested.
Rescue and relief groups have rushed to the location, the government said. Top Minister Lotay Tshering is on his way to the site, his office commented.
A section of the 32 MW Yungichhu Hydro electricity plant in a remote area within the east of the country was washed away, however the fundamental element was not hit, the Bhutanese newspaper stated in a Twitter post without elaborating.
“It’s miles a prime catastrophe,” it quoted an unnamed legitimate Druk inexperienced power, during the plant’s construction, as pronouncing. The lacking blanketed undertaking workforce, the official introduced.

Tragedies of this kind are especially rare in Bhutan which sits between China and India and has a population of simply 750,000. However in 2021, at least ten people were killed when flash floods washed away a far flung mountain camp.
This year, neighbouring Nepal has seen at least 25 people killed and another 25 missing in flash floods and landslides caused by annual monsoon rains that started in June.
