Children’s Day is celebrated every year on the 14 November for the birth of the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. Being a man with immense love for children and with a vision for children, this day has been named in the honor of Pandit Nehru and all children in India celebrates this festival in order to promote the honor for their innocence, their future and their rights.

Date and Significance

When in 1964 Pandit Nehru passed away India decided to celebrate his birthday as the Children’s Day because he so valued education, freedom and development of children. In the past India celebrated Children’s Day on 20th of November following the Universal Children’s Day. But, changing the date from October 14 to November 14 was a symbol of his continued affection for the youths and his dream of future – one that was productive and educated.

Historical Background and Nehru’s role

Nehru once in particular used to stress that children are the future of the nation and he always invested a lot for the development of the children, their education, and personality thereby visualizing a… He played an active role in the formation of schools and policy that was to form the basics of educational system in India.
