You should know about how to apply for passport under the new rules


Several rules have been changed so that you can easily get your passport. In December 2016, the Minister for External Affairs had released the new passport rules.  Notably, now it will be easy for orphans, single mothers, and government employees to receive their passports with minimum hassle.

Get your passport with no hassle

Here are some specific changes that you should know

1.No need of birth certificates: Applicants don’t have to submit birth certificates under new rules. Applicants have to submit either of the following documents as proof of date of birth: Birth Certificate; Aadhar Card; Pan Card with Date of Birth; Transfer/School Leaving/Matriculation Certificates with Date of Birth. One could also submit driving license, Election Photo Identity Card or Policy Bond issued by public life insurance corporations with applicant’s DOB.

2. Aadhar Card Mandatory:  Applicants have to submit their Aadhar Card Aadhaar card or E-aadhar card while they apply for the passport. The Government has now made it mandatory to furnish the details of his/her Aadhar and UID number for applying for a passport. The person will also have to make an in-person appearance for getting the passport after their biometric verifications are done.

3. Annexes reduced: Earlier, passport forms had 15 annexure but now the number of Annexes- A, C, D, E, J, and K has been reduced from 15 to 9. So you don’t need to worry about the annexure attested now as well.

4. Deed waived: While applying for passport of in-country domestically adopted children, one need not submit the registered adoption deed. In the absence of a deed on this issues, have to submit a declaration written and signed on a plain sheet that confirms about the adoption of the child.

5. Single Parents: Now, applicants like a single parent can fill the name of only one parent who is the legal guardian. Well, it’s not necessary or mandatory to mention the name of the Father. This would be very helpful for those who are  raised by a single parent

6. Marriage Certificates and Divorce Decree: Married couples and these applicants would not have to submit their marriage certificates. If the applicant is separated or divorced and even filed for divorce that would not be needed for applying for a passport. The applicant will not have to mention the name of the former spouse in the application.

7. Orphaned Children: If an orphaned child hasn’t a proof of his DOB, the head of the orphanage, he can apply the organization’s official letterhead for the child and that can be submitted with an application.
