Centre working on National Education Policy 2016: Venkaiah Naidu:- The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu said that currently the centre is working on the National Education Policy-2016 that entreats to promote “a credible education system” which will be in the future capable of ensuring quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for one and all, on Tuesday.
According to Information and Broadcasting Minister
The Centre is also working on to promote 20 world-class institutions, both in the public and private sectors, he added, stating that “informing and reforming our youth”, so as to enable it to further take part in transforming the country, and this “shall be the agenda of the higher educational institutions”.

Addressing the session of the south zone conference of the vice-chancellors of various universities at the Vignan University at Vadlamani in Guntur district, Venkaiah said that the new policy, which was going through the consultation process, was aimed at producing students and graduates equipped with complete “knowledge, skills, attitude and values” that is required to lead a productive life and participate in the country’s developmental process.
“Commercialisation of the education with its emphasis on success in the competitive exams and securing a high-paid job has entirely resulted in socio-economic issues to be grappled with. If the present higher education system does not result in producing a right product, it could lead to serious socio-economic and political implications”, Venkaiah warned.
“From being a pioneer of education in the ancient times, we now lag behind many other countries in terms of both quality and quantity. From the great heights, we have for different reasons fallen.
“Many of our students fly to other countries for higher education and it is a matter of serious concern,” the Union Minister observed.
He asked the vice-chancellors to think upon this and “do the needful”.
Among the attendants
Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas, Association of Indian Universities president D S Chauhan, Vignan University founder Lavu Rattaiah and vice-chancellors of universities of southern states are currently attending the three-day conference that is ongoing on the theme “Universities’ contribution to spilling, innovation and entrepreneurship”.
