The Supreme Court on Monday decided to examine whether the Amity Law School student Sushant Rohilla committed suicide because of the harassment by college authorities over his attendance record or not.
Taking the letter into consideration which was written by one of Rohilla’s friend, the bench of Chief Justice which included T.S. Thakur and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud stated that the bench would examine whether there was an “element of suspicion” that the sucide took place due to “harassment”.
The court has also appointed a senior advocate and jurist F.S. Nariman to assist and said that it may also consider laying down some guidelines.
Sushant Rohilla, 20, had committed suicide on August 10 at his premises, reportedly because the law school was not allowed to write a his exams, following his attendance record.

The college authorities reported that Rohilla had 43 per cent attendance, whereas according to the college rules, an attendance of 75 per cent attendance is required.
Whereas Rohilla had provided a letter to the college authorities stating a severe foot injury making it the cause for his absence.
The court has not issued a notice to the Amity Law School, which is affiliated to Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University.
However the court has asked the senior advocate Siddharth Luthra, who appeared from the institute’s side, to file a response seeking to the public interest litigation that was instituted after taking a note of the letter written to the Chief Justice of India by Raghav Sharma, one of a close friend of the deceased and the current 4th year law student.
