According to the petition, on September 29 last year, two villagers saw that Akhlaq and his son were beating a calf. In defence, Akhlaq said that because the calf was attacking people he was going to tie the calf at his brother Jaan Mohammad’s house.

While, another villager said that he saw Akhlaq holding the calf down while his brother Jaan Mohammad was slitting the animal’s throat.

According to the petitioner, on the night of 28 September, Akhlaq was stopped near Bada transformer by few villagers while few went to his house and found a vessel containing meat.

Seeing this the mob got out of control and started beating Akhlaq and his son, resulting in Akhlaq’s death.

The petitioner submitted the report by Mathura forensic lab, which states that the meat sample sent by the police was of the cow progeny.
