Snapchat has updated itself and has come up with a lot of new filters. These filters are getting mixed response some are praising it and on the other hand, some are criticizing on the grounds of racism.
It has been said that these filters “white wash” the original colour of your skin and makes you look prettier. These filters overlay images on the selfies, which appear to lighten the skin.
Critics say that the “flower crown” filter makes the users look extremely white. However, this filter brightens the whole image and not just the face. Complaints regarding other filters have also been received saying that these filters enlarge the user’s eyes, makes skin look blemish free and pale, slim down some features etc.
What the critics think is that the new snapchat is portraying a negative body image by making you look white with the help of the filters. They portray as if only white people are beautiful and others are being insulted on the grounds of criticism.
