Women and Child development Minister, Maneka Gandhi completely changed her tae on marital rape in India. The minister said it cannot consider as a crime in India.
There are many factors behind such as poverty, illiteracy and religious beliefs. The Minister last year in June said that Martial rape should be considered as crime in India.
So either the minister did not do her homework last year, when she called marital rape unacceptable, or she has just decided to retract her stand for the reasons best known to her.
When Gandhi was asked in Rajya Sabha yesterday about declaring martial rape as a crime, she answered that marital rape cannot be suitably applied in the Indian context due to various factors like illiteracy, poverty, social customs, religious beliefs and mindset of the society.
