Types of Bacteria in the mouth
In the study researchers from National Cardiovascular Center in Japan, observed stroke patients to get a better understanding of the relationship between hemorrhagic stroke and oral bacteria.
Among patients, who had intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), it was found that 26% have a specific bacterium in their saliva, Streptococcus mutans CNM-positive.
Among patients with other types of stroke, only 6% tested positive for the bacteria. Strokes are characterized either as ischemic strokes, which involves a blockage of one or more blood vessels supplying the brain or as hemorrhagic strokes, in which blood vessels in the brain rupture, causing bleeding.
